maths..... hard area problem?

The flag of israel is blue and white(see figure 1). The star is made from 2 triangular formations(figure 2) with the dimensions shown. The triangles that form the star overlap in 6 places. The total area of overlap is equivalent to 10% of their combined(blue) area. Without rounding off any values until the final answer, find out what % of the flag is blue.
in the triangle pic the 1.5m is on the outside of the triangle while the 1m is on the inside (minus the lines)

Assuming your figures are correct then a hollow triangle with an outer length of 1.5m and an inner length of 1m would have an area equal to the outer triangle area minus the inner triangle area.
Each triangle is equilateral so if we bisect one angle we get a triangle with angles of 30, 60, ad 90 degrees. We can then use the law of sines to get the height of the triangles. The outer triangle has a height of 1.299 m and the inner triangle has a height of 0.866 m.
(1.299*0.5*1.5) - (0.866*0.5*1.0) = 0.541265877....m^2 for one triangle
since the second triangle overlaps in 10% of the total combined area the total area would be 1.082531754 - (1.082531754* 0.1*0.5) = 1.028405167 m^2. I multiplied by 0.5 because even though it overlapping it still needs to count for one of the triangles.
The stripes are each 0.6m x 5.5m = 2 stripes each 3.3 m^2 = 6.6m^2
The total flag area is 5.5 m x 5.2 m = 28.6 m^2
The percent blue is 26.67%
I don't think your second figure accurately depicts the lengths of the lines if the outer length was 1.5 m and the inner length was 1.0 m the triangles would be much thicker.

can anyone draw me a tatoo and send it to my e-mail?
