Swimming tips. Lifeguard test ?
So I applied for lifeguard job. I need to pass an easy test. I have to swim 200feet in 2min. My dad timed me swimming and I swam 152ft in 50 sec. I was not going near my full speed and I could swim more but I did not know length of the pool. I know I can pass it right now but I still have more than a moth to train so I just swim every other day.1day run& lift weights/2nd day swim. I don't want to just pass the test I want to become a lot better. I want to improve my strokes so when I swim it looks like I am gliding on the water and so that I don't use as much energy to swim. I watched a lot of instruction videos and they helped but I can't copy all the moves they do just by watching a video. So my question is ,does anyone know any tips on how to make my swimming as smooth as possible.Any special exercise that will help me improve?
Look there is no need for you to train and spend hours for this test. 200 ft is about 66 yards. It takes a competative swimmer to do that in about 30 or less seconds in a speedo. You should be able to do it around 50-60 seconds, since it will be the actuall test you are more prompt to go your fastest. Since you are going to be a lifeguard, you should swim on a daily basis. Alternating with running is a great start. When you swim, try finding a pool that is about 25 yards long or so just so you can keep track of what you are actually doing. My advice for you becoming smoother is to at first slow everything down, watch the videos and practice through the motion over and over in your head until it becomes subconsious to you. Then, time your self for a given distance, add about 30 seconds to it, and try to keep at that time as a set until you can no longer make it. This should help you with what you need. There are some weight lifting machines you can do, which pretty much includes anything besides bench pressing. Swimming works all of your muscles. Well good luck. The truth is lifeguards dont need to swim really fast for a huge distance. All they require is for you to jump in a pool and save the victim. When that day comes, all you will end up swimming for is probably about 5 seconds. The training is the key to being a lifegaurd. Good luck.

A resident at my apartment complex runs a swimming lesson business. Would you find that annoying?
Every time I'm at the pool she is giving swim instructions to kids there (sometimes groups). They take up the entire pool. Not to mention, some days I don't want to get my hair wet... this doesn't mean I don't have a right to enjoy the pool without her swim class swimming by every 30 seconds kicking water and splashing me.
Would you mind if your apartment pool were taken over every day (from 10am to 5pm) with swimming instruction?
I shouldn't say a resident... I should say a neighbor. I don't work for the complex, I'm a fellow resident. Excuse my incorrect wording
She is allowed to run this business out of the apartment's pool. They are aware and even advertise her services. Is there anything I can do? I was not made aware of this until after I moved in.
Not only would this be annoying, it may be against the rental contract you signed. You have a right to a reasonably quiet existence when in and around the premises. This would at least be cause to get out of your rental contract (if it got to be too much), and get the deposit back...especially if you've requested a compromise, such as making them shorten the lessons.
This is also a liability for the complex. This is why many complexes won't allow certain types of businesses to be run in and around the premises. They are liable if injuries occur. If the swim class doesn't have a prior agreement with the complex you may be able to complain to the manager or association.
Or, just suck it up and enjoy what you have
