Float Vest
How deep is the river everyone floats?
I have floated the guadalupe river before and I know it is shallow enough that you can stand up in it. But some of my friends are going to float the camole (sp?) river this weekend and i'm wondering how deep it is. I can't swim, so I need to know if I need a life vest for it.
The Comal river varies from a few un-navigatable inches at times to +25 ft deep at some points. (it's not that wide at any point maybe 75ft across at times but mostly 20ft wide at most points).
If you're not a strong swimmer I'd wear a life vest for sure any time you're floating because the rivers can get very swift very quickly. It's not uncommon to see people wearing life vests. I'm not trying to scare you but I'm trying to be honest and realistic. If you can't swim, wear a vest. You can always take it off or unsnap it when the river calms down. The Comal has a "tube shoot area" where the river forks and takes you down a section that's like a water slide. The rapids are ruff and the river can easily tip you out of your tube. People usually hangout at the bottom of the shoot collecting beers, coolers, and sunglasses that spillout during the trip.
