I had recently bought a speedo brief which is part of the requirement of the local swim club. As this is my first time wearing one, I would like to ask how I can wash my speedo so that it would last the longest. Would the following steps be alright? Please give some suggestions.
1. (At home). Wear speedo under clothes
2. Take bus to swimming pool (Journey takes around 2hr)
3. Swim Practice
4. (After practice) Shower to get rid of chlorine
5. Wear speedo under jeans and take bus back home (the journey takes around 1.5hr)
6. (Immediately after reaching home) Soak speedo in cold water for 15mins
7. Rinse under cold water for 1min
8. Hang dry on the clothesline
I would like to ask if it is fine if I do not hang the speedo under sunlight, but rather dry under aircon, during the time which I would be asleep?
If you want it to last a long time and have the best color, then change a few things.
Only wear your speedo for swimming.
The sweat and chemicals from your body will slowly break the material. The same thing will happen from the denim (jean material) rubbing against it.
So, wear your regular clothes, including underwear, to swim practice. Go in the locker room and strip and put your speedo on. Practice. Go in the locker room and take your speedo off. Shower. Rinse your speedo in cold water in the sink (if there are plenty of sinks, you can soak it while you shower). Don't wring or twist it. Just squeeze gently.
At home, lay it out to dry, but it's best if it's not in the sun.
I'm assuming you don't change in the locker room because you are embarassed about being seen naked. This is a good time to get over that. Being on a sports team, it's common to change in front of other guys. It's part of the cameraderie that helps you form friendships and feel part of the group. It always looks very immature if a guy hides his nudity or goes in a bathroom stall to change.
It will feel embarassing and/or awkward at first, but after a week or so, it won't seem that way at all. You might even get an erection the first time or two, but that's ok. That happens to all guys occasionally. You might get a little teasing, but it will all be in fun. No one will think badly of you.
It will help you grow up, and it's healthier if you shower without the speedo on. It's not good to wear something wet or damp for a long time. It can give you 'jock itch' (fungus) down there.
