Is clothing detergent residue bad for swimming pool equipment?
If you wear all your clothing in a pool whenever you swim, and when you hottub, there's enough detergent residue to make some suds, is it doing any damage to the pumps/filter equipment? What about salt chlorinators? This is a 12,000 gallon pool being swam in.
The answer is: Yes.....and no. Enough detergent residue could effect the pH balance of the pool water. However, in a typical large community pool of say 500,000 gallons, a few people wearing shorts and t-shirts instead of proper swim attire will make essentially '0' difference. The place where you notice this problem most is in hot tubs. Not only detergent residue, but natural skin oils, deodorant, perfume, and the like will lead to suds building up in a spa. It is not really a health threat or anything like that; it's only unattractive.
