As in what can i do to maintain the sufficient body for swimming competition without a pool?

you dont want your muscles becoming dense so

run 1-2 hrs a day continuously

lift right after running(focussing on upper body)

eat a normal amount of calories dont decrease or increase

do pushups and situps when u wake up
3-4x30 pushups
3x50 situps
3x50 crunches
3x30 leg lifts

I'm going swimming today and I'm wondering if anyone knows any good swimming workouts that burn a lot of calories. I'm 5'7", 140, and 16 years old, so I'm pretty sure I can handel close to anything you give me (:

In case you don't know all of the strokes or how to do them, here:

Strokes (in IM order):
Butterfly: Make sure you have two big kicks, one at the top and one at the bottom. your hands should entire finger tips first. for all the strokes your fingertips should point to the bottom of the pool.

Backstroke: Lots of body roll. pinkies enter first. you want to put your head back. and your pull should be sort of like you're waving.

Breaststroke: undulate. press forward with your chest and chin. it has sort of the same motion as butterfly. for your kick you sort of want to "hide your heels" and keep your knees behind you.

Freestyle: lots of body roll. hands enter finger tips down. keep your elbows up. make sure you extend, don't let your stroke enter at your head. end your stroke by your hip or farther.

Swim work out:

5X200s: warm up, swim, kick, swim, pull, swim
10X50s:kicking @ 1:20
10X50s: choice, descend 1-5 (get faster each 50) @ 1:00
10X75s: odds IM w/o the free, evens 25 stroke, 25 free, 25 stroke @ 1:30
10X100s: choice, odds swim, evens pull @ 2:00
10X25s: sprint, odds free, evens choice @ 1:00
10X50s: cool down, choice, turn drills (start at middle of pool and do a 50, should do 2 turns) @ 1:10
total: 4500 yds/m

*You may need to adjust the yardage and times to fit your needs.

What is an effective 2500 meter swimming workout for overall fitness?


I started swimming daily 2 months ago. At first, I had a very hard time doing 500 meters/day but am now up to 2500 meters/day, 1600 of which I did continuous today without rest. I'm swimming both to improve cardio and for weight loss. I've been doing a random mix of crawl and breast stroke. However, I'm getting bored with it and am looking for a more structured workout from someone who is either a swim coach or an experienced swimmer.

A set that really helps your underwaters and make your abs really strong is a set of 20 25s on 40 seconds with 2 breaths per 25 but if you want to challenge yourself you can try doing it in 1. Also try switching up your stroke and do some new ones. I personally love butterfly it is very rythmatic and challenging but it is also very fun. Another thing you can do is swim with a friend it motivates you to push yourself harder and you can race.

What kind of swimming workouts could I do?


Ok so I used to be able to swim 12x400 yards workouts about a year ago on the pool
but lately i haven't been swimming due to college work, and today i've lost most of my endurance, and on tuesday I need to be able to swim at least 300 yards without stopping

and today is thursday, so that gives me 5 days, can anyone give me a few workouts i could do so on tuesday i could right away swim 300 yards or at least 250 yards without killing myself but without being so easy?

training i sometimes I do 'ladder training '

25 meters , 30 second break
50 mt , 30 second break
75 mt , 1 minute break
100 mt , 1 minute break
75 mt , 1 minute break
50 mt, 30 minute break
25 mt , 30 minute break

you can up or slow the pace , type pf stroke , depending on your ability . But its a good workout , has a routine and you can time it .
