Now, I'm a Russian-Canadian every time Russians get invaded they retreat and wait for winter to come. Roads in Russia are not much better in summer time, just Goggle "russian road" and look at the pictures.
Moscow is surrounded by dry swamps that burn during forest fires every single year reducing visibility downtown to around 200 feet. Suburbs are pretty much an evacuation area.
Say if it was late spring, or summer like when Germany invaded, would it makes sense to retreat and set as many forests and swamps on fire.
PS Canadians evacuated their embassy in Moscow because of the smoke.

they were dried for fuel 90 years ago. in addition the past 10 years have been the hottest for Moscow. +40 c these days.
Probably not a good tactic as it there is no predicting the wind and there would be too much danger of the smoke blowing back into the faces of the defenders. I do not know what conditions the swamps are in now, but in the past the swamps themsevles did a lot to stop advancing armies. Not only did they hamper mobility but they were also a festering ground for dieases carrying insects. More of Charles XII and Napoleon's soldiers died due to disease and other complications than in actual battle.
Edit: Based on what you say the current conditions are. I still would only set fire to them as a last resort. A better tactic would be liberal use of anti-personal and anti-vehicle mines. Add to that forward observers to call in artillery when the advancing forces become bogged down in the mine fields.
